Overview
This roadmap discussion, recorded on July 15, 2025, highlights recent and upcoming features for our enterprise data movement platform Active Everywhere (formerly Resilio Connect).
Resilio Active Everywhere is a software-only platform designed for IT, DevOps, media, and engineering teams to connect core, edge, and cloud infrastructure. It's peer-to-peer and WAN-accelerated and supports file caching, file locking, and automation. The platform runs on virtually any operating system, supports various file systems, and doesn't use proprietary formats.
The session is hosted by customer success manager Fonda Karapateas and Resilio co-founder and chief product officer Ilan Shamir.
Roadmap Highlights
Version 4.0 (Released Q2 2024)
Introduced caching functionality, which enables implementing a global file system with centrally deployed primary storage instances (single source of truth) and local caching agents that bring the data closer to end-users. This helps reduce costs by minimizing WAN traffic and optimizing storage utilization, without affecting end-user experience.
Added distributed file locking to prevent multiple users from editing the same file simultaneously. The Management Console provides insight into active file locks (who holds them, which machine, which user), with sub-five-second lock propagation.
Enhanced high availability capabilities for Primary Storage and Caching Gateway agents. Agents can be set up in high availability groups. The ones that manage Primary Storage devices operate in active-passive mode while those delegated to Caching Gateway duties, operate in active-active mode.
Scale Out - 5.x (Released Q1 2025)
Enables unlimited, linear transfer speed scalability by allowing multiple agents to point at a single source and move data in parallel. In production deployments, speeds of up to 250 Gbps have been achieved. This is particularly effective when dealing with millions of small (under 1 MB) files.
Version 4.2 (Released Q2 2025)
Adds the Storage Tiering and Archival Job to facilitate data movement between storage tiers (e.g., from high-performance, expensive storage to cheaper archival storage like Amazon AWS Glacier). Rules can be set to automatically move files based on access patterns.
Introduces file streaming that optimizes file download to only transfer the chunks of the file the application needs. This way the file can be opened instantaneously without having to fully hydrate it.
Adds detailed file transfer reports for Distribution and Archival Jobs, that can be generated on demand using Management Console or via an API call.
Version 5.1 (Release in Q4 2025)
- Improved performance - faster initial scanning and consecutive re-scans.
- File locking support on NAS devices (NetApp, Azure Files, Synology, etc.)
- Enhanced reporting and analytics capabilities with centralized events database, featuring SQL-like queries support, custom notifications and the option to feed events to tools like Datadog.
- End-user experience improvements: ability to manage Users and Job membership using AD (and later Okta), removing macOS kernel extension in favor of the macOS native FSKit module, streamlining the UI.
